Types of Breast Surgery in Montreal

The Centre de Chirurgie Plastique de l’Île-des-Sœurs provides an array of different cosmetic surgeries to help improve the shape and appearance of your breasts.

Breast Augmentation

Breast implants are perfect for adding volume to your bust. Our experienced plastic surgeons offer the choice between saline (sterile salt water) and silicone implants, which are inserted behind the mammary gland or pectoral muscle. During your first consultation, your doctor will carefully explain all the technical details of the surgery, such as the location of the incision as well as the positioning, shape and size of the implant.

Breast Reduction for Women and Men

Women suffering from breast hypertrophy (rapid and disproportionate growth of the breasts) often have severe back and neck pain, headaches and spine deformation. They also tend to have trouble finding clothes that fit and difficulty playing sports. Sometimes covered by health insurance, breast reduction decreases the size of the mammary gland while improving the shape and symmetry of the breasts. Surgeons will often combine a breast reduction and lift to obtain a more aesthetically pleasing result.

This procedure is also available for men who have abnormally enlarged breasts (gynecomastia). This condition is usually produced by a hormonal imbalance that causes a surplus of fatty tissue to develop under the nipple area.

Breast Lift

Also referred to as mastopexy, breast lift involves removing the excess breast skin and reshaping the breast tissue in order to reposition the breasts on the chest. A breast lift is usually paired with a breast augmentation in women with smaller breasts and whose nipples are too low. Women with larger breasts, on the other hand, will usually have a breast reduction during a lift. Either way, a mastopexy is the perfect solution to create a more proportioned and natural looking bust.

A breast reconstruction restores the look, feel and shape of the breast in women who have undergone a partial or total mastectomy. This is done through different surgical procedures (such as breast implants and natural tissue flaps) that will vary depending on the size and shape of the breast, thickness of the skin and scar tissue.

Preparations, Recovery and Healing

All breast surgeries require a degree of preparation to ensure that each step in the process (operation, recuperation and healing) goes as smoothly as possible.
